We are currently looking for a Venture Partner with particular interest and expertise in how Education Technology (EdTech) and Generative AI might improve teaching and learning, particularly in mathematics.

As a Venture Partner with a specialism in EdTech and AI, you will lead research and dissemination activities in the space to create effective system change in England, also engaging international stakeholders where we can learn from them or partner effectively with them. Your role will require working directly with researchers, teachers, school leaders, school-facing organisations, funders and policy makers. You will also work directly with incubated and supported ventures, including identifying future prospects for support.

This role will suit a strategic thinker with exceptional stakeholder engagement skills who is excited to work with entrepreneurs, educators, policy makers and AI/tech experts alike, who can use both strategic and operational knowledge and experience to build mission-driven start-ups, and who will help deliver significant social impact in the EdTech space.

Responsibilities and Duties

Conduct and Disseminate Research

  • Lead a review of evidence on school leadership of digital tools to improve support for school leaders.
  • Review how maths teachers in effective schools are using EdTech/AI and develop high-quality case studies for public dissemination.
  • Commission research on promising EdTech/AI solutions to support teacher professional development and reduce teacher workload.

Foster Change, Collaboration and Community

  • Work closely with policy makers and key influencers to ensure that government policies, frameworks and guidance can learn as much as possible from our research findings.
  • Build a thriving community of mission-driven organisations, EdTech and AI innovators, school leaders, policymakers, and funders to share best practices and collaborate on projects.
  • Enhance Purposeful Ventures’ reputation and leverage relationships to benefit the ventures we support.

Identify and Support High-Impact EdTech and AI Ventures and Initiatives

  • Build a pipeline of potential EdTech and AI initiatives and entrepreneurs with whom Purposeful Ventures can partner, with a focus on innovative solutions for systemic impact in education and youth development.
  • Provide expertise in navigating the UK EdTech and AI ecosystem, including trends, policy, key funders, and technical considerations.
  • Support the identification and establishment of future philanthropic partnerships to extend and grow this portfolio.
  • Provide strategic and operational support to both new and existing mission-aligned charitable ventures.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will have the following skills, knowledge and attributes:

  • Passionate about transforming life chances for children including through EdTech, AI, and education innovation.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the current UK EdTech and AI ecosystems, including trends, policy, key funders, and technical considerations.
  • Demonstrable experience in strategic or analytical roles, such as project management in strategy consultancy, leadership in a government delivery role or leadership roles in social enterprises, particularly within EdTech, AI, or related sectors.
  • Demonstrable track record of leading project and/or organisational success and delivering impact.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability, tools and frameworks to apply logical, critical and methodical processes to deconstruct information, identify problems and causes and present solutions and options at individual, organisational and sector level.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with experience of managing and aligning multiple stakeholders and agendas.
  • Effective, engaging and nuanced communicator, written and verbal, including the ability to structure and articulate complex information for internal and external audiences.
  • Flexible and adaptable; comfortable working with multiple start-ups and projects in an agile, fast-paced environment.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Additional Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience in start-up development, including launching and growing new ventures.
  • A proven track record in scaling organisations and driving sustainable growth.
  • Ability to supportively build capacity within teams and organisations to enhance effectiveness and impact.
  • Direct experience of working in senior management or board level within a charity, contributing to strategic direction and governance.
