ABOUT PURPOSE DISRUPTORS

Founded in 2019, Purpose Disruptors is an award-winning organisation on a mission to change the story of advertising, from a story of extraction to regeneration, from negligence to responsibility, and from carelessness to conscious consumption. We’re on a mission to change the story of advertising by educating and inspiring disruptors to write the next chapter.

Our work includes:

  • Developing a pioneering measurement framework - Advertised Emissions - to measure the holistic carbon emissions of advertising, now adopted by the UN as best leadership practice;
  • Developing a flagship sustainability training programme, ChangeTheBrief adopted by all six network groups across the industry;
  • Founding Project Good Life 2030, aimed at redefining the concept of a ‘good life’ by shifting the focus away from consumerism towards connection.
  • Launching the Agency for Nature - the first Creative Agency for All Life on Earth, garnering attention from the BBC, The Irish Times, Mashable, Vogue Business and It’s Nice That.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As we enter a critical window for transformative climate action across the creative industries, we’re seeking a proactive, creative and strategically-minded Communications and Community Manager (maternity cover) to help amplify our impact and elevate our presence across sectors and audiences.

You’ll love juggling opportunities and learning new things. Whilst you might not be an expert in all things comms, you will have the drive and desire to find out how to make stuff happen. You will have lots of initiative, a sharp eye for opportunities, and a deep sense of ownership. You should be just as comfortable drafting media releases and thought leadership as you are hosting a community event or jumping on a call with collaborators.

As the voice of Purpose Disruptors across channels—you will own and execute our communications plan, manage our social platforms, and translate often complex or technical concepts into compelling, accessible messages. You’ll also nurture our growing community, designing and hosting moments of connection—both digital and in-person—that energise and grow our network.

This role is central to the Purpose Disruptors’ mission. You will shape the way we communicate, build relationships with our growing community, and bring energy and consistency to our voice across multiple platforms and projects.

PROJECTS YOU WILL BE SUPPORTING

  • Project Good Life: Since early 2021, Good Life 2030 has brought together leaders and creatives from across the industry to explore what compelling visions of a new ‘good life’ in 2030 could look like, and what these visions mean for them as individuals, their work, their businesses and for the advertising industry itself.
  • Agency for Nature: The Agency for Nature project rallies major advertising agencies around one mission: use creativity to create hype for nature connection in UK youth culture.
  • ChangeTheBrief: Change The Brief is the flagship sustainability learning programme for marketing and advertising professionals, created by Purpose Disruptors.
  • Advertised Emissions: Advertised Emissions is Purpose Disruptor’s flagship measurement framework that enables agencies, media owners and brands to go beyond their operational emissions and measure the holistic impact of their work.
  • Events: As well as the initiatives outlined above we also organise a monthly pub night and have previously hosted a leadership roundtable series, online webinars, and project launch parties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communications Planning & Content Creation: Develop, lead and deliver our external comms planning across multiple platforms including: social media, web, email newsletters, media outreach, campaigns and partner channels.
  • PR & Media Relations: Build and nurture media relationships across advertising trade press, business, sustainability and culture media.
  • Community & Network Building: Plan, manage and host regular community events (in-person and virtual), ensuring diverse and inclusive participation.
  • External Events: Manage calendar of key advertising industry and climate events, opening up opportunities for representation of Purpose Disruptors' work.
  • Project & Campaign Support: Work closely with project leads to ensure key campaign and event milestones are aligned with comms outputs.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience in communications, PR or comms planning.
  • Ability to write clear, creative and strategic content across channels.
  • Passionate about climate, nature, you’ll naturally be across major topics, breakthroughs and events in the climate and nature sector.
  • Experience managing communities or networks and facilitating meaningful engagement.
  • Excellent event planning skills, from small workshops to high-profile panel events.
  • Project management skills and experience with digital tools like Monday.com, Squarespace, Mailchimp, and Google Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships across diverse stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the UK advertising and media landscape.
  • Design and content creation skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
