A secondary school in Bristol is seeking an ambitious and dedicated Literacy Lead (English Teacher) to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis starting April 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced English teacher with strong leadership skills to lead and develop a whole-school literacy strategy, while also teaching within the English department. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving reading, writing and communication skills across the academy, ensuring all students can fully access a challenging and engaging curriculum.
Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 (M1–UPS3) + TLR2B (£5,873)
The Role:
- Lead and develop a whole-school approach to literacy and reading
- Teach English across relevant key stages
- Work closely with subject leaders and senior leadership to implement an evidence-based literacy strategy
- Analyse literacy data to inform teaching and interventions
- Deliver high-quality CPD to support staff in embedding literacy across the curriculum
- Promote a strong reading culture and coordinate targeted literacy interventions
- Support students to develop confidence, independence and a love of reading
The Ideal Candidate:
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification
- Has experience delivering high-quality English lessons at secondary level
- Demonstrates strong leadership and the ability to influence whole-school practice
- Has experience supporting a wide range of learners, including SEND, pupil premium and high-attaining students
- Is an excellent communicator who can motivate colleagues and build positive relationships with students, staff and parents
- Is committed to professional development and supporting the growth of others
