About the Direct Payment Holder

T is a 16 year old male with level 2 ASD, ME CFS, ARFEDS and learning difficulties. T is highly intelligent, a quiet, thoughtful, loving compassionate individual whose life has broken him. His complex fatigue and mobility weakness of legs has resulted in isolation and withdrawal. T uses crutches and has wheelchair refusal. It is paramount for his fatigue levels to be paced, monitored and understood to prevent bed bound relapses.

T struggles in busy, noisy situations, easily becoming overwhelmed and shutting down. T likes motor bikes, nature, animals and photography.

Hours and rate of pay: 7.5 hours a month with flexibility in how and when the hours are used, evenings/weekends. Paid at £15.00 per hour.

Location: Littleport, Ely – CB6

DBS/Checks: Confirmation of DBS check. Right to Work and references will be needed.

What you would be doing:

  • A connection needs to be built initially in the family home, slowly over time before migrating out into social situations with a view to reintegration into society and re-establishing self-worth.
  • Supporting with better hygiene and some support with personal care.
  • Shopping, helping to cook.
  • Encouragement to engage with activities he enjoys such as cinema, gym, swimming, table tennis, nature and photography.
  • A buddy to work on personal skills with.

Required skills and experience:

  • It is vital that you have experience or knowledge and understanding of extreme fatigue and exhaustion.
  • Experience of ASD/ADHD; you may have these conditions yourself or a member of your family does, or perhaps you work in a SEN setting.
  • Someone with character and a sense of humour, who likes to chat but is okay having a one-sided conversation and not getting a response.
  • If you have the same interests as T, that would be great.
  • As some personal care is involved, I would feel more comfortable with a male carer. This advert complies with the Sex Discrimination Act Section 7 (2b).
