A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a truly independent and long established practice in Berkshire. This exceptional practice has been serving the local community for over 150 years and proudly holds the accolade of being one of the first in the UK to be awarded Veterinary Hospital status. With a reputation for clinical excellence and a fiercely supportive ethos, this team places genuine care for patients, clients, and staff at the heart of everything they do.
Working here means being part of a forward thinking and nurturing environment where clinical autonomy is respected, ideas are welcomed, and your voice is truly heard. Many of the team have been with the practice for over a decade – some even longer – a testament to the culture of collaboration, kindness, and commitment. Facilities are excellent, including a dedicated orthopaedic theatre, imaging suite with ultrasound and digital X-ray, dental radiography, separate cat and dog areas, four consult rooms, and a peaceful garden for team breaks. Recent investment in an Idexx Sedivue machine and plans for laparoscopy reflect their continuous drive for improvement.
The role suits a confident first-opinion Veterinary Surgeon with strong consulting and soft tissue surgical skills, alongside a genuine interest in medicine and ultrasound. Certificate support is available, and the varied caseload offers an excellent platform for development. You’ll mainly be based at the central hospital site but will occasionally rotate across two other well-equipped branches, all within a 15 minute drive – so a valid driver’s licence is essential. There’s no sole charge, and the welcoming team ensures you’ll always feel supported.
Outside of work, the team enjoys a friendly, social vibe, with regular get-togethers and a shared sense of pride in the practice. The surrounding area brings its own perks – from riverside walks and royal parks to great pubs, independent shops, and excellent transport links into London and beyond.
