Registered Veterinary Nurse – South of Newcastle (County Durham)

Purovets are proud to be working with a truly independent, family-run practice based South of Newcastle. With excellent transport links, this position is easily commutable from Newcastle, Durham, Sunderland and the wider Tyne & Wear area, making it a great base for both city life and countryside living.
This forward-thinking team are passionate about providing first-class care to animals of all shapes and sizes, whilst maintaining the traditional community feel that’s often lost in larger corporate settings.
The practice is RCVS accredited and home to an advanced practitioner in Dermatology and Exotics. You’ll be joining a supportive team of 4 vets, 4 nurses, animal care assistants, receptionists and admin, all led by an approachable management team with an open-door policy.
The practice is well-equipped with modern diagnostic and surgical facilities, including dental X-ray, ultrasound, ventilator, rigid endoscope, multiparameter monitor and more. There are separate wards for dogs, cats and exotics, ensuring the very best care for every patient.
The caseload is wonderfully varied – from cats and dogs through to birds, reptiles, chickens, wildlife and small furries – making this an ideal role for a nurse who thrives on variety and is keen to keep developing their skills. Nurses also have designated schedule 3 days, with opportunities to train and perform schedule 3 procedures.
The team value work-life balance, offering a 4-day week, no OOH and plenty of social activities outside of work, from bowling to meals out and escape rooms.
The Role
- Full-time RVN, 39 hours per week (4 days, 8:30–18:15)
- 1:4 Saturday rota, no OOH
- Rotating shifts across theatre, consults and hospital work
- Career development actively encouraged – unlimited CPD and certificates supported
- Looking for a motivated, organised RVN with a calm and professional manner
The Package
- Salary from £27,500 (dependent on experience and qualifications)
- Unlimited CPD and fully funded certificates
- RCVS & VDS fees paid
- 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays
