An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established, forward-thinking veterinary practice in Essex. This predominantly hospital-based role is ideal for a clinician with a strong interest in internal medicine and diagnostic imaging, looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and well-equipped environment.
The successful candidate will bring a minimum of 4–5 years’ experience in small animal practice and demonstrate confidence in managing both routine and complex medical cases. A particular passion for diagnostic imaging is highly desirable, with candidates holding (or working towards) a relevant certification strongly encouraged to apply.
Working within a collaborative and highly skilled clinical team, the Senior Veterinary Surgeon will play a key role in delivering exceptional patient care, while also maintaining the autonomy to work up cases independently. Although the role is primarily hospital-based, there will be occasional requirements to support across other practice sites, so flexibility is important.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a varied caseload, including complex medical and emergency cases
- Perform and interpret diagnostic imaging (ultrasound, radiography, etc.)
- Work independently on case work-ups while collaborating with the wider team
- Carry out routine and advanced abdominal surgeries
- Contribute to high clinical standards and continuous improvement
- Minimum 4–5 years’ experience in small animal practice
- Strong interest and practical experience in internal medicine and diagnostic imaging
- Medical or imaging certification (or working towards) desirable
- Confident in handling emergency and critical care cases
- Capable in working up complex cases independently
- Comfortable working primarily in a hospital environment with some flexibility across sites
- Experience in laparoscopic procedures (desirable but not essential)
- Competitive salary up to £75,000 (dependent on experience)
