A well-equipped small animal veterinary practice in County Durham is seeking an Out of Hours (OOH) Veterinary Surgeon to join its dedicated and supportive night team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced vet with an interest in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) or for a Veterinary Surgeon looking to further develop their ECC skills within a progressive and well-supported practice environment.

The successful candidate will work a highly attractive rota of 7 consecutive night shifts followed by 3 weeks off, creating an excellent work-life balance within a 4-week cycle.

The Role

This OOH Veterinary Surgeon job in County Durham offers the opportunity to work in a modern small animal hospital environment, providing exceptional overnight care to inpatients and emergency cases. The practice is committed to delivering high clinical standards and invests heavily in equipment and professional development to support its veterinary team.

Working Pattern
  • Part-time position
  • 7 continuous night shifts
  • Followed by 3 weeks off
  • 1 week on, 3 weeks off rota

The practice is exceptionally well equipped with a wide range of in-house diagnostic and treatment facilities, enabling the team to provide comprehensive patient care overnight. Equipment includes:

  • In-house laboratory
  • CT scanner (pending installation)
  • Digital X-ray
  • Ultrasound
  • Upper and lower GI tract endoscopes
  • Rigid female canine cystoscope
  • Bronchoscope
  • Hydrotherapy unit

The successful candidate will work alongside a knowledgeable and supportive team, including certificate holders across multiple disciplines, with encouragement and support for further professional development.
