A leading independent veterinary hospital in West Yorkshire is seeking a full‑time Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with strong surgical nursing experience to join its highly skilled and supportive hospital team. This is an exciting opportunity for a Surgical Veterinary Nurse looking to work within a busy, well‑equipped veterinary hospital offering a varied and interesting caseload, with a particular bias towards orthopaedic procedures. The successful candidate will join a large, experienced team and play an integral role in delivering exceptional patient care.

The Role

This role is ideally suited to a Registered Veterinary Nurse with theatre and surgical experience who thrives in a fast‑paced hospital environment and enjoys hands‑on nursing. The successful candidate will be involved in a varied caseload, with day‑to‑day responsibilities including:

  • Supporting a wide range of surgical procedures, with a strong emphasis on orthopaedic surgery
  • Providing high‑quality theatre nursing and anaesthesia support
  • Delivering excellent inpatient care and patient monitoring
  • Running veterinary nursing consultations
  • Working collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to deliver outstanding clinical outcomes

While duties will include inpatient care and nurse consults, the role has a strong bias towards theatre work, making it ideal for an RVN with a passion for surgery. The successful candidate will become part of a large, collaborative clinical team consisting of 6 Directors, 40 Veterinary Surgeons, 55 Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs), 5 Student Veterinary Nurses (SVNs), and 23 Auxiliary Nurses.

About the Practice

This independent veterinary company is based in the beautiful area of West Yorkshire, with a purpose‑built veterinary hospital located in Huddersfield and six branch practices across the surrounding region. The practice works closely alongside its sister company, which provides veterinary care for many local farm animals and horses. The main hospital in Huddersfield provides a dedicated Out‑of‑Hours veterinary service, staffed by an experienced emergency team. The hospital is exceptionally well equipped and offers access to advanced veterinary technology and facilities, including:

  • CT scanner
  • Digital X‑ray
  • Endoscopy and laparoscopy
  • Diathermy equipment
  • Dental suite with dental X‑ray
  • Fully equipped in‑house laboratory
  • Ultrasound
  • Dedicated high‑sterility theatres for orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery
  • Separate wards for cats, dogs, exotics and isolation cases
  • A dedicated ICU facility

The wider team benefits from access to in‑house specialists and advanced services, including a fully equipped animal rehabilitation centre and a specialist behaviour team. The company is a proud member of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme, holding Hospital Status at its Huddersfield site and GP Status across its branch practices.

Salary & Hours

£30,000 – £34,000 DOE based on a 5‑hour working week. Includes an equal share of weekend cover on a rota basis.
