Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon – Reading

Salary: £40,000 – £65,000 DOE | Full-Time or Part-Time | Permanent

An independent, modern small animal veterinary practice in Reading is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join its growing team. This RCVS-accredited practice, established three years ago, has quickly built a loyal client base and offers an excellent opportunity for a vet looking to develop their career in a supportive and progressive environment.

The Practice

The practice is purpose-built and equipped with state-of-the-art veterinary facilities, including:

  • Two fully equipped operating theatres
  • Dedicated dental suite with dental x-ray
  • In-house IDEXX laboratory (including blood gases and coags)
  • Digital x-ray and ultrasound
  • Advanced anaesthetic monitoring

Additional unique features include a glass-fronted prep room and secure online client access to patient records, including clinical notes, photos, and videos—supporting a transparent and modern approach to veterinary care. The team benefits from regular visits by peripatetic specialists, enhancing case exposure and clinical development opportunities.

The Role

This position is ideal for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon who is:

Work-Life Balance & Hours

Flexible working options are available, making this role suitable for both full-time and part-time applicants. Full-time rota includes:

  • 4-day working week
  • Fixed day off
  • 1 in 4 Saturdays (8:30am – 12:30pm)
  • Mix of early (8:30am – 6:00pm) and late (9:30am – 7:30pm) shifts
  • No Sundays, no out-of-hours (OOH), and no inpatient on-call
