What We're Looking For

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Registered Manager within an Ofsted-regulated children's home
  • Proven experience of opening and registering a new children's residential home
  • Strong knowledge of Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and safeguarding requirements
  • Proven leadership and people management experience
  • Ability to recruit, develop and retain a high-performing residential care team
  • Strong understanding of therapeutic, child-centred and trauma-informed approaches
  • Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Genuine passion for improving outcomes and enriching the lives of children and young people
  • Calm, resilient and solution-focused approach
  • Ability to build strong relationships with children, families, social workers and external professionals
  • Ambitious approach and enthusiasm for contributing to the growth of an expanding organisation

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Ofsted registration process and prepare the home for opening
  • Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and operation of the home
  • Ensure the home operates in accordance with its Statement of Purpose, Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
  • Promote outstanding safeguarding practices and ensure children's welfare remains the highest priority
  • Recruit, supervise, develop and inspire a high-performing staff team
  • Establish a warm, nurturing and therapeutic culture within the home
  • Embed child-centred practice and ensure children's individual needs and aspirations are at the heart of care
  • Build positive and effective relationships with children, families, social workers and partner agencies
  • Oversee care planning, risk management and safeguarding processes
  • Monitor quality assurance, audits and continuous improvement across the service
  • Manage the home's budget and resources effectively
  • Ensure children have access to meaningful experiences, activities, holidays and opportunities that enrich their lives
  • Promote positive outcomes across education, health, emotional wellbeing and independence
  • Work closely with the Responsible Individual to ensure the home maintains high standards of care and compliance
  • Lead the service through future Ofsted inspections and drive continuous improvement
  • Support the development of the organisation as it expands into additional children's residential homes
