Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Group, Newbury
Our client is part of an exciting, independent, and growing veterinary group that has been redefining what it means to work in the veterinary sector for over fifteen years. They are not a corporate entity driven by profit at the expense of people — they are a proudly independent, family-owned group that puts staff, clients, and patient care first.
With thirteen practices in total, this is an organisation large enough to offer security, stability, and career progression, but still small enough to maintain a genuine sense of community and individuality. Independence is at the heart of everything they do — and always will be.
They are now seeking a dynamic Veterinary Surgeon with at least two years’ experience to join their friendly team in Newbury, a vibrant market town known for its racecourse and surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in southern England.
The Newbury surgery, which opened just last year, is a bright, modern practice equipped with all the facilities you would expect — including digital radiography, ultrasonography, and a fully integrated Idexx laboratory. Dedicated surgical suites are available for both the in-house team and visiting specialists in ophthalmology, soft tissue, and orthopaedic surgery.
What truly sets this group apart is its people‑first ethos. They believe loyalty comes from mutual respect and flexibility — crafting roles that suit each team member’s needs. With no on‑call duties and flexible rotas, they ensure every vet enjoys an excellent work‑life balance, staying fresh, motivated, and enthusiastic about their work.
They lead the way in the profession with outstanding packages and continuous investment in both their staff and their clinics. From industry‑leading salaries and up to six weeks’ holiday, to regular ten‑year clinic refits and a genuine commitment to staff wellbeing, this is a team that practices what others preach. Having opened three new practices in the past eighteen months, their growth is steady and sustainable — always focused on quality over quantity.
At Newbury, the rota is initially a shared one — working alongside the owner, a part‑time vet, and visiting medical and surgical specialists. There’s plenty of support from across the group’s twenty surgeons and seventy staff members, as well as the on‑site nursing team. Collaboration is key, and teamwork is something they’re proud to champion.
