Successful Applicants
- Passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people in care
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in children’s residential care, including at least 1 year in a supervisory role within the last 5 years
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (essential)
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (preferred at application stage, or willingness to enrol within 6 months)
- Strong understanding of The Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards, SCCIF, and wider childcare legislation
- Experience supporting children with emotional, behavioural, and social difficulties, including trauma-informed practice
- Strong leadership skills with experience in planning, organisation, and team management
- Experience in budget management, resource allocation, and operational oversight
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Full UK driving licence
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee a 3-bed Ofsted-registered children’s residential service in Hereford
- Manage planned and emergency admissions, including bridging placements
- Deliver structured daily programmes that provide stimulation, opportunity, and tailored support to individual needs
- Ensure each child has a comprehensive, individualised care plan covering emotional, educational, social, health, and developmental needs
- Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing staff team, ensuring effective induction, supervision, and ongoing development
- Promote a culture of participation, ensuring children and young people are actively involved in their care
- Allocate Key Workers and ensure effective delivery of individual care plans
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, including National Minimum Standards and the Home’s Statement of Purpose
- Take responsibility for safeguarding, complaints, and child protection matters, ensuring appropriate escalation and resolution
- Build strong relationships with external professionals, including social workers, families, and multi‑agency partners
- Attend and contribute to care planning meetings, reviews, and professional discussions
- Promote a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children can achieve their personal best
- Ensure effective financial and operational management of the home in line with budget expectations
