Responsibilities
- Lead and support the nursing and care team in delivering safe, high-quality, person-centred care.
- Oversee clinical governance processes, driving quality improvement initiatives and action plans.
- Conduct regular medication audits, identify areas for improvement, and ensure safe medicines management.
- Complete, review, and update care plans to reflect current clinical needs and best practice.
- Carry out staff supervisions and performance appraisals, providing clear feedback and development support.
- Ensure robust safeguarding practices, incident reporting, and risk management to protect patients.
- Monitor and promote effective infection prevention and control measures across the service.
- Support the Registered Manager in preparing for and responding to CQC inspections and maintaining regulatory compliance.
Key Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior nursing role within a care home, hospital, or similar clinical setting.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with experience supporting and motivating large staff teams.
- Demonstrable understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement, and audit processes.
- In-depth knowledge of safeguarding, patient safety, and risk management in a healthcare environment.
- Solid understanding of infection prevention and control practices and their implementation in clinical settings.
- Familiarity with CQC standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with staff, patients, families, and external professionals.
- Confident in using clinical documentation systems and maintaining accurate, up-to-date records.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in leading service improvements in response to audit findings or inspection outcomes.
- Background in coaching or mentoring nurses and care staff to develop clinical skills.
- Experience in managing change and embedding new policies or procedures within a team.
- Exposure to multidisciplinary working and liaison with external healthcare professionals and agencies.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (Adult or Mental Health) with current NMC registration.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to leadership or clinical management.
- Post-registration qualification in leadership, management, or clinical governance (preferred).
- Training in safeguarding, infection prevention and control, and medication management (required or willingness to complete on appointment).
