What We're Looking For

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or currently working towards it
  • Level 3 qualification in Children's Residential Care
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a senior role within children's residential care
  • Previous Registered Manager experience, or strong Deputy Manager experience ready to step up
  • Experience working with children and young people with emotional and behavioural needs and/or learning disabilities
  • Strong knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Ofsted inspection frameworks
  • Proven experience in safeguarding, care planning, risk management and staff development
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, support and hold a team accountable
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • A child-centred, values-driven approach with a genuine commitment to providing high-quality care

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead the Ofsted registration process and prepare the brand-new home for opening
  • Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and operation of the home
  • Ensure the home remains compliant with the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
  • Recruit, supervise, develop and retain a high-performing staff team
  • Establish a positive culture centred around safeguarding, stability and child-centred care
  • Lead by example and remain visible and actively involved within the home
  • Oversee care planning, risk management and placement stability for each young person
  • Ensure children receive consistent, nurturing and high-quality care tailored to their individual needs
  • Build strong relationships with children, families, placing authorities and multi-agency professionals
  • Promote positive outcomes across education, wellbeing, development and independence
  • Monitor quality assurance and drive continuous improvement across the service
  • Prepare for and lead the home through Ofsted inspections and monitoring activity
  • Ensure safeguarding concerns, incidents and risks are managed effectively and in line with regulatory requirements
  • Manage the home effectively against its Statement of Purpose and agreed operational standards
  • Work closely with the wider leadership team to ensure the home has the resources, support and systems required to succeed
  • Contribute to the continued growth and development of the organisation, with opportunities for progression into senior operational roles as the organisation expands
