The Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Administrator to join a busy payroll team within a well-established accountancy practice. You will manage a varied portfolio of client payrolls, taking responsibility for accurate and timely processing while providing a high level of service and practical advice to clients.

Key responsibilities

  • Managing end-to-end payroll processing, including auto-enrolment pensions
  • Preparing and submitting Full Payment Submissions and Employer Payment Summaries to HMRC
  • Handling client and internal payroll queries promptly and professionally
  • Ensuring accuracy and quality across all payroll outputs
  • Calculating and processing statutory payments and court orders
  • Advising on and processing annual leave entitlement
  • Uploading and maintaining pension data and completing relevant regulatory declarations
  • Supporting junior members of the team and reviewing work where required
  • Processing maternity and sickness payments
  • Setting up and approving BACS payments for salaries and PAYE
  • Producing payroll reports and payroll journals
  • Liaising with government agencies and pension providers where required
  • Setting up pension schemes and maintaining payroll software records

The payroll team provides specialist payroll services to businesses ranging from small owner-managed companies through to larger organisations with 250+ employees. The team prides itself on delivering accurate, timely and professional advice while building long-standing client relationships.

Attributes Required

  • Strong knowledge of payroll and auto-enrolment legislation
  • Proven experience processing payroll from start to finish
  • Experience managing payrolls of varying sizes and complexity
  • Previous experience within a payroll bureau or accountancy practice is highly desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Professional, approachable and positive attitude
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Confidence providing clear and practical advice to clients
  • Ability to work independently while also supporting colleagues
  • Experience with STAR payroll software would be advantageous, but training can be provided
