A well-established multi-service law firm is looking for a Duty Solicitor to join its Crime Team in its City of London office. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a supportive and growing team, handling a varied criminal defence caseload and representing clients across police stations and the Magistrates’ Court.


Key Responsibilities



  • Representing clients detained at police stations

  • Managing a caseload of criminal defence matters covering a range of offences

  • Conducting advocacy in the Magistrates’ Court, including summary trials

  • Handling Crown Court hearings where Higher Rights are held

  • Providing high-quality client care and legal advice

  • Managing cases efficiently and working to tight deadlines


About You



  • Qualified Solicitor with at least 1 year’s PQE in criminal matters

  • Crime Duty accreditation preferred, but not essential

  • Candidates without accreditation will be expected to obtain it by January 2027

  • Strong communication and advocacy skills

  • Excellent organisational and time-management abilities

  • Confident managing a demanding caseload with minimal supervision

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work calmly under pressure

  • Professional, pragmatic and positive approach

  • Genuine interest in publicly funded criminal defence work

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • IT proficient, with experience using case management systems
