Duty Solicitor - City of London

A well-established multi-service law firm is looking for a Duty Solicitor to join its Crime Team in its City of London office. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a supportive and growing team, handling a varied criminal defence caseload and representing clients across police stations and the Magistrates’ Court.
Key Responsibilities
- Representing clients detained at police stations
- Managing a caseload of criminal defence matters covering a range of offences
- Conducting advocacy in the Magistrates’ Court, including summary trials
- Handling Crown Court hearings where Higher Rights are held
- Providing high-quality client care and legal advice
- Managing cases efficiently and working to tight deadlines
About You
- Qualified Solicitor with at least 1 year’s PQE in criminal matters
- Crime Duty accreditation preferred, but not essential
- Candidates without accreditation will be expected to obtain it by January 2027
- Strong communication and advocacy skills
- Excellent organisational and time-management abilities
- Confident managing a demanding caseload with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work calmly under pressure
- Professional, pragmatic and positive approach
- Genuine interest in publicly funded criminal defence work
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- IT proficient, with experience using case management systems
