Role Overview
We are seeking a technically minded and highly organised Assistant to support our Technical Director in the development, testing, manufacture, and continuous improvement of our product range.
This is a varied hands‑on role that combines product design, prototyping, technical administration, electronics assembly, and manufacturing support. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering & production while assisting in bringing new products from concept through to manufacture.
The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of SolidWorks, basic electronics, soldering, and product design, along with a practical approach to problem‑solving and a willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Product Development
- Assist the Technical Director with product design and development projects.
- Create and modify 3D CAD models and technical drawings using SolidWorks.
- Support the development of new hearing protection, communication, and audiological products.
- Produce prototypes and assist with product testing and evaluation.
- Maintain engineering drawings, design files, and technical documentation.
- Conduct product research and investigate new materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods.
Electronics & Assembly
- Assemble and test electronic prototypes and production samples.
- Carry out soldering of electronic components and circuit assemblies.
- Assist with troubleshooting and fault‑finding on electronic products.
- Support the development and testing of communication and audio monitoring systems.
Manufacturing Support
- Liaise with production teams to resolve technical issues.
- Assist in developing assembly instructions and manufacturing procedures.
- Support quality control activities and product validation testing.
- Help monitor product performance and recommend improvements.
Administration & Project Support
- Manage technical documentation, revision control, and project records.
- Coordinate with suppliers regarding components, materials, and technical specifications.
- Assist the Technical Director in planning and tracking project activities.
- Prepare reports, specifications, and technical presentations as required.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks CAD software.
- Understanding of product design and development processes.
- Experience with electronics assembly and soldering.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Good problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Desirable
- Experience using 3D printing or rapid prototyping equipment.
- Knowledge of audio products, hearing protection, or audiological devices.
- Experience with PCB assembly and testing.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for electronic or medical‑related products.
- HNC/HND, degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Electronics, Product Design, or a related discipline.
