Role Overview: We are seeking a technically minded and highly organised Assistant to support our Technical Director in the development, testing, manufacture, and continuous improvement of our product range. This is a varied hands-on role that combines product design, prototyping, technical administration, electronics assembly, and manufacturing support. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering & production while assisting in bringing new products from concept through to manufacture. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of SolidWorks, basic electronics, soldering, and product design, along with a practical approach to problem-solving and a willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities: Technical & Product Development β’ Assist the Technical Director with product design and development projects. β’ Create and modify 3D CAD models and technical drawings using SolidWorks. β’ Support the development of new hearing protection, communication, and audiological products. β’ Produce prototypes and assist with product testing and evaluation. β’ Maintain engineering drawings, design files, and technical documentation. β’ Conduct product research and investigate new materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods.
Electronics & Assembly β’ Assemble and test electronic prototypes and production samples. β’ Carry out soldering of electronic components and circuit assemblies. β’ Assist with troubleshooting and fault-finding on electronic products. β’ Support the development and testing of communication and audio monitoring systems.
Manufacturing Support β’ Liaise with production teams to resolve technical issues. β’ Assist in developing assembly instructions and manufacturing procedures. β’ Support quality control activities and product validation testing. β’ Help monitor product performance and recommend improvements.
Administration & Project Support β’ Manage technical documentation, revision control, and project records. β’ Coordinate with suppliers regarding components, materials, and technical specifications. β’ Assist the Technical Director in planning and tracking project activities. β’ Prepare reports, specifications, and technical presentations as required.
Skills & Experience Required:
Essential β’ Working knowledge of SolidWorks CAD software. β’ Understanding of product design and development processes. β’ Experience with electronics assembly and soldering. β’ Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. β’ Strong organisational and administrative skills. β’ Good problem-solving and analytical abilities. β’ Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. β’ Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Desirable β’ Experience using 3D printing or rapid prototyping equipment. β’ Knowledge of audio products, hearing protection, or audiological devices. β’ Experience with PCB assembly and testing. β’ Understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems. β’ Knowledge of regulatory requirements for electronic or medical-related products. β’ HNC/HND, degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Electronics, Product Design, or a related discipline.

Salary: Β£27k-Β£29k Hours: 8am-4:00pm Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent This role would suit a Junior Design Engineer, Product Development Technician, Electronics Technician, or Technical Assistant looking to develop their career alongside an experienced Technical Director within a specialist manufacturing environment.
