Are you an experienced Design Technician with strong SolidWorks and CAD skills? Our client based in Haverhill, Suffolk is seeking an experienced Design Technician to join their team on a permanent basis.

As a Design Technician, you will be responsible for turning approved concepts, specifications and site information into accurate 3D models, manufacturing drawings and supporting technical information. Working primarily with SolidWorks, you will collaborate closely with design, production, project management and installation teams to ensure products are practical, functional, manufacturable and meet customer requirements.

As a Design Technician, your duties will include:

  • Producing accurate 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks
  • Developing bespoke designs from client briefs, specifications, approved concepts and site-survey information
  • Preparing drawings and technical information for manufacture, assembly and installation
  • Ensuring designs are suitable for available machinery, materials and manufacturing methods
  • Applying appropriate dimensions, tolerances, fixings and construction details
  • Checking designs for accuracy, functionality, buildability and compliance with specifications
  • Revising drawings following internal reviews, client feedback or project changes
  • Maintaining accurate drawing revisions, files and design records
  • Liaising with production, project management and installation teams to resolve technical queries
  • Identifying potential design, manufacturing or installation issues and proposing practical solutions
  • Assisting with product development, prototypes and improvements to standard designs
  • Attending design reviews, project meetings, site surveys or installation visits when required
  • Working to agreed project programmes and communicating any issues that may affect deadlines
  • Following company quality, health and safety and document-control procedures

An ideal candidate for the Design Technician role will have:

  • Experience using SolidWorks or a comparable 3D CAD package
  • The ability to produce clear and accurate manufacturing and assembly drawings
  • A good understanding of dimensions, tolerances, materials, fixings and manufacturing methods
  • Strong spatial awareness and excellent attention to detail
  • Practical problem-solving skills
  • The ability to interpret design briefs, specifications and site information
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good written, verbal and general IT skills

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience designing products for CNC or automated manufacturing
  • Knowledge of sheet materials, timber products, laminates, solid surfaces, metalwork, glass and hardware
  • Experience producing bills of materials or component schedules
  • Understanding of design for manufacture and assembly
  • Experience working from site surveys or architectural drawings
  • Relevant qualification in product design, furniture design, engineering, CAD or a related subject
  • Full UK driving licence
