The Role

Location: Remote (With travel into Leeds Head Office)

We are looking for a Head of Health & Safety to join our growing Central Operations Team! We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Health and Safety to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our organization’s health and safety framework across all PureGym markets. This senior leadership role is critical in ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, fostering a proactive safety culture, and driving initiatives that protect the wellbeing of employees, contractors, and stakeholders across all operational sites.

The ideal candidate will lead the UK Health & Safety team, support international operations, and oversee our Group CCTV and liability portfolios. This is a high-impact role requiring strong leadership, regulatory expertise, and a passion for operational excellence.

Key Duties Will Include

  • Developing and overseeing comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures and management framework across all PureGym markets
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and standards
  • Act as the subject matter expert on statutory compliance and regulatory interpretation
  • Leading and managing the UK team to support the international teams in Denmark and Switzerland
  • Conducting risk assessments and audits and incident investigations
  • Manage the Group liability portfolio, liaising with insurers and brokers to optimise claims and outcomes.
  • Oversee the Group CCTV team and enforce Standard Operating Procedures to support operational security.
  • Deliver training programmes and promote a positive health and safety culture across all levels.
  • Represent PureGym in cross-industry discussions and regulatory forums.

The Person

  • NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH Chartered Membership, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of HSWA, RRFSO, and industry-specific compliance standards.
  • Proven experience in risk assessment, incident management, and regulatory enforcement.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing health and safety teams across multiple markets.
  • Experience in training design and delivery.
  • Knowledge of CCTV operations and security protocols.
  • Experience managing liability portfolios and claims defence strategies.
  • Experience and understanding of the Danish and Swiss markets to support business partners appropriately.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term vision and operational needs.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Experience in high-footfall environments such as gym, leisure, or retail.
  • Involvement in industry committees or policy development.
