Our client is a small specialist niche Engineering design and build contractor who deliver projects for both municipal and industrial clean water, and wastewater treatment. They specialise in the Mechanical & Electrical products and services for water clients throughout the UK, offering their own technology solutions. Due to continuous growth and project awards, they are looking to recruit a Design Lead/Manager.
The Design Lead is the key driving force for the design phase of the project, leading and taking responsibility for the successful design delivery of various wastewater projects by undertaking and coordinating design activities across Mechanical, Electrical and Process disciplines. Our client will consider someone already operating at this level or a Senior Engineer with management experience who is looking for a development opportunity. This role will combine both design engineering and project management/coordination.
Responsibilities:
- Support the design team to deliver the design works and act as a link between design disciplines to provide continuity for that project.
- Establish an agreed set of deliverables and ensure that they have been fully reviewed and the checking and verification stages have been completed before issue to a client or for construction.
- Coordination and management of design work by others on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Provide direction to the team, including oversight of project controls, and ensuring compliance with quality, programme, and cost requirements.
- Set and lead design review meetings and keep the action log updated.
- Manage the client design interface through review meetings, TQs and RFIs.
- Submit project TQs either to the client or through the agreed client process.
- Direct technical issues to the appropriate discipline.
- Analyse project performance and identify risks that may impact project delivery.
- Working in conjunction with delivery teams to promote integrated project delivery.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- A design-based engineering education (preferably mechanical). Would consider Electrical or Process.
- Experience in water or wastewater design or a relevant process industry.
- Knowledge of British Standards, water industry specification preferred, process industry design.
- Previous experience of managing a team.
- Be able to communicate effectively regarding matters of a technical nature to customers.
