We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Depot Fitter to join a leading organisation within the UK rail industry. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Mechanical Fitter, Rail Maintenance Technician, or Heavy Plant Engineer to work on a fleet of specialist rail plant used to maintain and improve the UK rail network. You will carry out preventative maintenance, servicing, fault diagnosis and repairs to ensure rail plant equipment remains safe, reliable and fully operational.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on rail plant fleet.
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
  • Interpret technical drawings, manuals and maintenance schedules.
  • Complete maintenance reports and documentation accurately.
  • Support condition-based monitoring activities, including oil and component sampling.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with railway safety standards and company procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised depot environment.
  • Work away from the depot when required to support field maintenance activities.
  • Participate in training and competency assessments.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a Depot Fitter, Mechanical Fitter, Rail Engineer, Plant Fitter or Maintenance Technician.
  • Experience working on heavy plant, rail vehicles, rolling stock or similar machinery.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and diesel systems.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Flexible to work shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Physically fit and able to pass a safety-critical medical.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience working on On Track Machines (OTMs) or rail maintenance equipment.
  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Rail industry competencies and safety certifications.
