Are you an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor ready to take ownership of the commercial function on high-profile infrastructure projects? We're looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading contractor, delivering multi-disciplinary light rail and civil engineering projects across the Midlands.
The Role
You'll take a leading role in managing the commercial function across a portfolio of projects, from inception to final account, ensuring profitability, efficiency, and compliance at every stage. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you'll lead and mentor a team of QSs, driving best practice in cost control, reporting, and contract management, while taking commercial ownership of your allocated projects.

Key Responsibilities:
- Take commercial ownership of allocated projects, managing the full commercial lifecycle from inception to final account
- Lead, mentor, and develop junior and intermediate QSs within the commercial team
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and reporting to ensure profitability and cost control
- Identify and drive awareness of risk and opportunity, ensuring contractual obligations are met across teams
- Oversee procurement, subcontractor management, and supply chain relationships
- Ensure timely and accurate commercial reporting, valuations, and final accounts
- Lead negotiation and resolution of contractual disputes and claims
- Provide senior commercial and contractual support and guidance throughout the project lifecycle
- Deputise for the Commercial Manager where required
About You:
You'll have a strong background in commercial management within the construction or engineering sector, ideally gained on large-scale civils or infrastructure projects. You'll be confident managing budgets, mentoring others, and handling complex contractual matters independently.
Essential Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a QS on major projects, with demonstrable seniority
- Proven track record in cost management, forecasting, and reporting
- Experience leading or mentoring junior commercial team members
- Hands-on experience with procurement and supply chain management
- Strong experience handling contractual disputes and claims
- Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office
Qualifications:
Preferred but not essential - Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (RICS or CIOB accredited preferred)
