The Opportunity

Are you a Vehicle Technician, Car Mechanic or Automotive Engineer looking for something different? We are offering a rare opportunity to transition out of the motor trade and into the rail industry, with full training provided. No rail experience needed. We will cross-train you from automotive into rail engineering. You’ll use your existing mechanical skills while learning to work on freight locomotives and rolling stock, a stable, higher-paying, and long-term career path.

Ideal Background

  • Vehicle Technician / Car Mechanic
  • Automotive Technician (Dealership or Independent Garage)
  • HGV / LGV Technician
  • Plant Fitter / Plant Mechanic
  • REME / Forces Vehicle Mechanic

If you can diagnose and fix vehicles — we can train you on trains.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Carrying out maintenance and servicing on rail vehicles
  • Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults
  • Performing inspections and testing
  • Completing maintenance paperwork
  • Working independently in a mobile role (van provided)

Working Pattern: Rolling 6-week rota, typically 4 x 10-hour shifts, includes “as required” support week.

What You Need:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance / Mechanical Engineering
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Ability to pass: DBS check, Medical, Drug & alcohol screening
  • British citizen (role requirement)
