My client is a rapidly expanding Aerospace business looking for a good old-fashioned foreman. They need someone with the experience and gravitas to demand respect without being over the top with their approach to people, as they have a highly skilled workforce.

The machine shop Manager will report directly to the Operations manager and is responsible for overseeing the daily manufacturing in the Aldridge facility. Reporting into the Operation Manager to agree Customer deliveries and Sales for the next 3 months, mostly focusing daily on the month at hand and hitting agreed targets.

The functions in the business that will be under your responsibilities are as follows:

  • CNC Milling
  • Manual Turning
  • Wire eroding
  • Spark Erosion
  • Vertical Boring
  • Shot Blasting & Painting
  • Fitting / Assembly

This role involves managing a team of 16 and will require a hands-on approach to supporting business needs.

Required Experience:

  • Capability for reading drawings
  • Previous experience in Machining Programming and CAM Systems
  • Manager/Supervisor experience
  • Planning / creating work lists for each section/person within the workshop
  • Problem solving
  • Organised and process-driven behaviour
  • Quality and Safety driven behaviour
  • Strong Leadership and Mentoring skills
  • Liaising with Engineering and Procurement to understand material shortages and Sub con requirements
  • Knowledge in ERP systems
  • Organising maintenance/servicing/Tooling/Spares for machines
  • Continuous Improvement skills
  • Understanding of 5s, Lean and KPIs

Salary of £32k to £40k depending on experience. The role requires someone who is capable of 'spinning plates', has a 'Can Do' attitude, a good sense of humour, and can turn a negative into a positive. Their business is in the Aerospace tooling sector, dealing with low volume medium to high complexity parts, so it’s not mass production. As a result, the person needs to be determined and agile in their approach.

Moving forward as the business develops over the next 2-3 years, there will be numerous opportunities for development and progression within the company.
