To manage the Food Safety and Quality Assurance function across the site, ensuring full compliance with UK and international food safety legislation, customer standards, and industry accreditation requirements. The FSQA Manager will drive continuous improvement in food safety, product quality, and compliance while supporting operational efficiency and profitability.
Duties:
- Food Safety & Legal Compliance
- Ensure full site compliance with food safety legislation, retailer codes of practice, and industry standards (e.g. BRC Global Standard for Food Safety).
- Maintain site-wide HACCP plans.
- Ensure traceability, allergen management, labelling compliance, and product authenticity site controls are robust and effective.
- Act as a key site contact for Environmental Health Officers and regulatory authorities.
- Quality Management System (QMS)
- Manage and maintain site Quality Management System.
- Monitor site technical KPIs including complaints, non-conformances, internal audit findings, and micro results and report into Group Head of Technical.
- Drive site continuous improvement initiatives.
- Audit & Certification Management
- Manage site third-party, customer, and regulatory audits.
- Manage corrective and preventative action plans to ensure timely close-out.
- Conduct internal audits and verification activities to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Customer & Supplier Management
- Daily interface with customers regarding food safety, quality performance, and complaint investigations.
- Oversee site complaint handling and root cause analysis, ensuring effective corrective action.
- Approve suppliers and ensure raw material compliance through risk-based assessment and documentation review.
- Production
- Ensure Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards are consistently maintained across the site.
- Oversee hygiene standards and environmental monitoring programmes.
- Promote a strong food safety and quality culture throughout the business.
- Support on crisis recall process.
- Team Leadership
- Manage the QA team.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify development needs.
- Provide technical support and training to production and operational teams.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in food manufacturing.
- Strong working knowledge of HACCP, GMP, allergen management, and UK food legislation.
- Experience managing BRC audits.
- Proven leadership and people management skills.
- Advanced HACCP qualification.
- Internal/Lead Auditor qualification.
- Experience within retail supply chains.
