I am working with an international pharmaceutical company who are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join our UK Tax team on a 12‑month maternity cover. Working closely with the UK Head of Tax and the wider Finance function, you will play a key role in managing tax compliance and reporting across multiple UK entities, while supporting business initiatives and contributing to selected strategic projects. Reporting to the UK Head of Tax, this role is primarily focused on tax compliance (around 90%), with additional involvement in advisory work depending on ongoing projects.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver accurate and timely tax reporting, forecasting, and compliance in collaboration with internal teams and external advisers.
- Manage tax processes using SAP, Making Tax Digital (MTD), and internal reporting tools.
- Support key compliance requirements such as CFC, DAC6, OECD Pillar Two, and other statutory disclosures.
- Lead the VAT process, including preparation, review, and submission of UK and international VAT returns, coordinating with external advisers where appropriate.
- Support statutory tax and accounts deadlines, including peak reporting periods, and assist with data gathering for SAO processes, tax audits, and regulatory enquiries.
- Work across a broad range of tax areas including UK corporate tax, VAT, customs duties, Plastic Packaging Tax, and employment tax.
- Monitor UK and international tax developments to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Partner with finance teams on VAT reconciliations and tax processes, ensuring strong controls and documentation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation to maintain robust tax processes, controls, and reporting.
Key Experience
- CTA‑qualified or ACA/ACCA‑qualified accountant with a strong tax background and approximately 5+ years’ post‑qualification experience in practice or industry.
- Strong experience in UK tax compliance, particularly corporate tax and VAT.
- Solid understanding of tax reporting processes, regulatory requirements, and statutory deadlines.
- Experience managing tax compliance across multiple entities.
- Ability to communicate complex tax matters clearly to non‑tax stakeholders and work effectively across different business functions.
- Proactive approach with the ability to investigate systems and processes, identify improvements, and support implementation.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment and adapting to legislative and business changes.
- High levels of integrity, professionalism, and respect for colleagues and stakeholders.
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is desirable.
This role is based in Huddersfield, Reading or remote with monthly office visits.
