An exciting opportunity for an experienced Indirect Tax professional to lead compliance and advisory across a broad range of areas, including VAT, customs duties, environmental levies, stamp-related matters, and specialist performer taxation. Sitting within a high-performing finance function and reporting into a senior finance lead, the role has significant influence on strategic tax operations, with a particular focus on cost-efficiency, governance, and compliance in an internationally active, regulated environment.

You will manage the preparation and submission of UK and global VAT filings, ensuring full compliance with local rules. This includes reviewing the VAT treatment of cross-border transactions and import/export activity. You'll also lead VAT planning initiatives aimed at optimising recovery, minimising exposure, and reducing risk. Staying ahead of digital tax requirements—such as Making Tax Digital and e-invoicing—is essential, alongside monitoring legislative developments and interpreting their impact on the business.

On the customs side, you’ll oversee compliance related to import/export flows and special customs regimes, while supporting logistics and procurement teams with technical guidance. You’ll also be the main point of contact for external customs advisors and authorities.

The role covers environmental taxes such as packaging and emissions-based levies, and involves managing obligations like CBAM. You’ll track emerging green tax regulations globally and assess their potential impact on operations, while advising senior stakeholders on strategic implications.

In addition, you’ll oversee compliance in specialist areas such as non-resident entertainer/performer taxation and stamp-related duties. Ensuring timely submissions and transactional support in these areas is key.

You’ll play a lead role in managing indirect tax risks across the organisation by embedding effective controls, maintaining strong documentation, and ensuring compliance with broader tax governance requirements like SAO, CCO, and BRR. The role includes engagement with external advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.

Process improvement is encouraged, and you'll have the opportunity to identify automation initiatives, drive efficiency in reporting, and support ongoing digital transformation projects across indirect tax.

About You:

  • Professionally qualified (CTA / ACA / ACCA or equivalent)
  • Experience in leading indirect tax functions, ideally across multiple jurisdictions
  • Strong UK VAT knowledge, with international and customs awareness
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, regulated environments
  • Strategic, commercially aware, and confident advising senior stakeholders
  • Process-focused with a passion for driving tax efficiency and compliance
