An established and fast-growing organisation is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Indirect Tax to join its London-based team. This is a senior leadership role with significant visibility, offering the opportunity to shape and optimise the business’s indirect tax strategy within a complex operating environment.
Reporting into senior leadership, the successful candidate will take full ownership of the organisation’s indirect tax function. The role will focus heavily on VAT strategy and management, with a particular emphasis on irrecoverable VAT, a key cost area for the business.
With upcoming audits and partial exemption matters, the organisation is looking for a proactive leader who can assess and enhance current frameworks, including reviewing existing partial exemption methodologies and exploring alternative approaches.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and develop the indirect tax function, providing oversight on all VAT-related matters
- Review and optimise partial exemption methods, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce tax leakage
- Prepare for and manage VAT audits and enquiries, ensuring strong governance and documentation
- Drive initiatives to minimise irrecoverable VAT costs
- Provide commercial, practical tax advice to senior stakeholders across the business
- Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact
- Build, mentor and lead a high-performing tax team
- Demonstrated leadership experience in indirect tax, with the ability to influence at a senior level
- Strong technical expertise in VAT, including partial exemption and complex scenarios
- Experience gained in-house or within a commercial environment (not solely practice-based)
