Hybrid working is supported; however, the successful candidate will be expected to work from the office a minimum of three days per week (Monday to Friday) to support effective collaboration, stakeholder engagement and team development.

The role

Overview

The Management Accountant plays a key role within the Group Finance team, providing accurate financial reporting, forecasting and commercial insight to support decision-making across the business. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the role is responsible for producing monthly management accounts, supporting board reporting, maintaining strong financial controls and partnering with stakeholders to drive business performance. The successful candidate will be encouraged to challenge existing processes, identify opportunities for improvement and build strong relationships across the Group.   • Produce accurate and timely monthly Management Accounts, including P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow reporting.
  • Prepare the first draft of monthly Board and Executive reporting packs, providing clear, concise and actionable commentary on financial performance, key risks and opportunities.
  • Deliver insightful variance analysis against Budget, Forecast, Prior Year and key business drivers.
  • Own rolling forecasts and support annual budgeting processes, continually improving forecast accuracy through effective stakeholder engagement and business understanding.
  • Act as a trusted Finance Business Partner, providing commercial insight, challenge and support to stakeholders across the Group.
  • Maintain ownership of Balance Sheet and Intercompany reconciliations, ensuring all balances are fully understood and reconciled.
  • Support cashflow forecasting and provide proactive analysis of financial performance, risks and opportunities to support decision-making.
  • Prepare VAT returns for Group companies, ensuring compliance and timely submission.
  • Produce payroll-related reporting and support annual HMRC compliance requirements, including P11D and PSA submissions.
  • Develop financial models and ad-hoc analysis to support business decision-making and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify and implement reporting, process and control improvements to drive efficiency and data quality.
  • Support year-end statutory reporting, audit requirements, corporation tax and key regulatory submissions.
  • Line manage and develop one direct report.

The person

We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded accountant with strong management accounting and Finance Business Partnering experience. You will have excellent attention to detail and take pride in producing accurate and insightful management information. Equally important, you will enjoy building relationships across the business, translating financial data into meaningful insights and supporting stakeholders to make informed decisions. The successful candidate will be naturally curious, keen to challenge the status quo and motivated to continuously improve processes, reporting and business performance.

Skills, experience and qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years recent financial services experience in either a mortgage or financial advisory firm.
  • Ability to use all Microsoft Office programmes to a competent level.

Qualifications

Mandatory

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or in the final stages of qualification.
  • Experience preparing monthly Management Accounts, including P&L, Balance Sheet and variance analysis.
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling skills.
  • Experience acting as a Finance Business Partner to operational stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel and finance systems skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Newly qualified or up to 2 years’ post-qualification experience.
  • Experience preparing Board or Executive reporting packs.
  • Experience within a multi-entity Group environment.
  • Experience of VAT returns, payroll reporting, P11D and PSA submissions.
  • Experience supporting statutory reporting and audits.
  • Financial services or other regulated sector experience.
  • Sage 200, Spreadsheet Server or Power BI experience.
  • Previous mentoring or line management experience.
