We are looking for an experienced Senior Ledger Clerk to oversee payment operations within a fast-paced construction environment. The role includes responsibility for both purchase and sales ledgers, leading a small team and ensuring accurate, timely processing to support cashflow and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support the ledger/payment team (2 staff)
- Process supplier, subcontractor and employee payments accurately and on time
- Validate invoices, certificates, valuations and payment schedules
- Ensure compliance with CIS, internal controls and payment terms
- Maintain monthly supplier and subcontractor reconciliations
- Oversee sales ledger accuracy, customer invoicing and debt monitoring
- Support cashflow forecasting, month-end, year-end and audit processes
- Produce aged creditor/debtor and payment reports
- Liaise with commercial, project and procurement teams to resolve queries
- Support system improvements and cover team duties during holidays
Skills Experience
- Proven experience in payments or accounts payable within construction
- Strong knowledge of CIS, retentions and construction valuations
- High level of accuracy with strong numerical and analytical skills
- Confident using accounting systems and Excel
- Strong communication, organisation and team-working skills
