We are looking for an experienced Senior Ledger Clerk to oversee payment operations within a fast-paced construction environment. The role includes responsibility for both purchase and sales ledgers, leading a small team and ensuring accurate, timely processing to support cashflow and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support the ledger/payment team (2 staff)
  • Process supplier, subcontractor and employee payments accurately and on time
  • Validate invoices, certificates, valuations and payment schedules
  • Ensure compliance with CIS, internal controls and payment terms
  • Maintain monthly supplier and subcontractor reconciliations
  • Oversee sales ledger accuracy, customer invoicing and debt monitoring
  • Support cashflow forecasting, month-end, year-end and audit processes
  • Produce aged creditor/debtor and payment reports
  • Liaise with commercial, project and procurement teams to resolve queries
  • Support system improvements and cover team duties during holidays

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in payments or accounts payable within construction
  • Strong knowledge of CIS, retentions and construction valuations
  • High level of accuracy with strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Confident using accounting systems and Excel
  • Strong communication, organisation and team-working skills
  • AAT qualified (or equivalent experience)
