An established and growing business based in Central Chelmsford is looking to recruit an Assistant Accountant to join the finance team on a 12-month fixed term contract. This is a broad, hands-on role offering exposure across the full finance function, working closely with the Head of Finance and supporting both financial reporting and day-to-day operations. It would suit someone looking to build on their experience in a practical, commercially focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, journals and analysis
  • Manage sales ledger processes including invoicing, receipts and reconciliations
  • Prepare weekly bank reconciliations and support cashflow reporting
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and support intercompany reconciliations
  • Assist with purchase ledger and subcontractor payments
  • Support VAT returns, CIS submissions and audit requirements
  • Contribute to balance sheet reconciliations and month-end processes

About You

  • Previous experience in a finance or accounts role
  • Studying towards AAT or similar (desirable)
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Confident using Excel and finance systems
  • Able to work to deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • A team player with a proactive, hands-on approach
