We are supporting a leading food manufacturing business in their search for a Safety Manager to join their technical team. This is a full‑time, permanent position offering the opportunity to work within a fast‑paced production environment, ensuring the highest standards of food safety, quality, and compliance.
As Safety Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of products through microbiological testing, analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will work closely with the wider technical and operations teams, contributing to the development and maintenance of robust food safety systems across the site.
Core responsibilities include:
- Conducting microbiological analysis of raw materials, in‑process, and finished products
- Investigating and monitoring food safety issues, supporting corrective and preventive actions
- Maintaining and improving laboratory procedures, ensuring compliance with BRCGS and retailer standards
- Supporting HACCP reviews, risk assessments, and validation activities
- Participating in internal audits and assisting with external audit preparation
- Maintaining accurate laboratory records, ensuring traceability and due diligence compliance
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives in hygiene, food safety culture, and process control
- Collaborating with operations, NPD, and quality teams to resolve technical issues and support site projects
About you:
- Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Strong understanding of food microbiology and hygiene principles
- Experience working in a food manufacturing or laboratory environment
- HACCP Level 3 and Food Hygiene Level 3 (or willingness to achieve)
- Working knowledge of GFSI standards and UK retailer Codes of Practice
- Confident communicator with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Highly organised, detail‑oriented, and able to work effectively under pressure
