Role Overview: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Project Engineer to lead and deliver electrical engineering projects from concept through to completion. You will be responsible for supporting the design, installation, commissioning, and handover of electrical systems and upgrades, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high technical and safety standards. These projects vary from a wide range of large complex heavy industrial settings but you will join a team of experienced and well-qualified experts. This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, project management capability, and stakeholder coordination within a manufacturing/industrial environment.

The Senior Electrical Project Engineer will be responsible for managing workflow and scheduling across the team, looking at programmes and allocating resources accordingly for different jobs/projects across a team of 8/12 Electrical Engineers. Department planning is vital to delivery and having good project management, operations, and people skills is essential. You will need to pipeline work, forecast and anticipate workflow, schedule and assign projects according to technical specialities and strengths and work reactively to realign resources when on assignment in the event of critical needs. Being able to prioritise and manage the team effectively across work streams will be key.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Delivery: Support electrical projects from initial concept, design, and planning through to implementation and handover. Define project scope, timelines, budgets, and resource requirements. Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Diplomatically manage team and resources according to need. Be client/customer facing and communicate issues/concerns clearly resolving conflicts and remaining accountable keeping all stakeholders internal and external informed of project progress.
  • Electrical Engineering: Support design and specify electrical systems including power distribution, control panels, and automation systems. Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical equipment. Provide technical support on PLCs, drives, motors, and instrumentation. Review and approve electrical drawings, schematics, and documentation.
  • Contractor & Stakeholder Management: Support and manage external contractors and suppliers, ensuring quality and compliance. Liaise with internal teams including production, maintenance, and HSE. Ensure clear communication of project progress and key milestones.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all work complies with relevant regulations (e.g., BS7671, IEC standards). Promote and enforce health & safety standards on all projects. Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe systems of work.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve plant efficiency, reliability, and energy usage. Support automation and upgrade projects to enhance operational performance. Contribute to long-term engineering and capital investment plans.

Skills & Experience:

  • Essential: Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. C&G Level 3 Electrical Inspection. BS7671 (18th Edition). C&G Level 3 (2391-01) Inspection & Testing of Electrical installations. Proven experience in delivering electrical engineering projects in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of electrical distribution and control systems, PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley), motors, drives, and automation systems. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation. Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Desirable: Experience with SCADA systems. Knowledge of functional safety systems. Experience working with capital projects (CAPEX). Project management qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP).
