Our client is a well‑funded, Cambridge‑based IoT technology company developing high‑volume connected hardware products used globally. Their technology is deployed at scale and operates in demanding real‑world environments, requiring robust, well‑engineered electronics and strong manufacturing processes.
They are now looking to hire an experienced Electronics Engineer / Hardware Engineer to play a key role in the design, development and productionisation of new and existing hardware platforms. This role covers the full electronics lifecycle, from concept and schematic design through to prototype build, testing, certification and volume manufacture. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team you will take ownership of electronics design decisions on commercially critical products.
Key Responsibilities- Component selection with consideration for cost, availability and reliability
- Schematic capture
- PCB layout oversight
- PCB design reviews
- Design and support production‑ready PCBs
- Diagnostics and fault‑finding of PCB‑level issues
- Design and specification of production test jigs
- Establish and maintain DRC and design review processes
- Manage EMC, safety and regulatory approval processes
- Prototyping and bench testing
- Coordinate and oversee the manufacture of prototype and pre‑production units
- Circa 5 years’ experience in electronics or hardware development
- Strong practical debugging skills using oscilloscopes, multimeters and similar lab equipment
- Experience working with products intended for volume manufacture
- Able to balance hands‑on technical work with manufacturing and compliance requirements
- PCB layout experience (Altium)
- Low‑power or battery‑operated system design
- RF design and testing
- Environmental or weather‑resistant product design
As a hands-on electronics role it is based on site 5 days a week in Cambridge. Easily accessible from Cambridge North Station. International travel is also expected, particularly in the first 6 months, to support NPI at manufacturing sites including test strategies and transition into volume manufacture.
