We are seeking a skilled and proactive Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical Bias) to join our team within a heavy plant manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving plant equipment, with a primary focus on mechanical systems, to maximise uptime and ensure safe and efficient operations.
We are looking for someone motivated by key engineering principles of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement. Your focus will be on Early Equipment Management (EEM) in manufacturing and how this impacts Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), with the aim of improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Key Responsibilities- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on heavy plant and production equipment
- Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, conveyors, and bearings
- Perform mechanical strip-downs, rebuilds, and component replacements
- Support electrical fault finding when required
- Minimise downtime through root cause analysis and effective problem solving
- Assist in continuous improvement and equipment reliability projects
- Ensure compliance with health & safety standards
- Maintain accurate maintenance records
- Communicate effectively with production teams
- Strong mechanical background (essential)
- Experience in a heavy plant, manufacturing, or industrial environment
- Completion of an indentured apprenticeship
- Relevant multi-skilled Electrical/Mechanical or Mechatronics qualification (e.g. BTEC, ONC, HNC or similar)
- Solid understanding of liquid transfer systems
- Ability to fault find in a controlled, methodical manner
- Strong understanding of pneumatic, hydraulic, steam, and electrical systems
- Practical bench fitting skills to support machinery repair
- Experience in hygienic TIG welding
- Experience of lathe work and machining
- Experience with CMMS systems
- Basic PLC fault finding
- Fabrication and mechanical installation experience
