Our Client, a reputable organisation, is seeking a dedicated Bookkeeper to join their team. This role offers the chance to play a vital part in maintaining financial accuracy and supporting day-to-day financial operations in a friendly, collaborative environment.

Role Overview

This key position has been created as part of a strategic growth initiative. The Bookkeeper will be instrumental in managing everyday financial transactions, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and preparing essential financial reports. Working in a friendly office setting in Ongar, Essex, this role promises variety, challenge, and the opportunity to develop your skills within a supportive organisation known for its professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recording and maintaining all financial transactions including purchases, sales, receipts, and payments
  • Reconciling bank statements and verifying the accuracy of financial data
  • Managing accounts payable and receivable to ensure timely processing
  • Processing invoices and providing support with credit control activities
  • Maintaining and updating the general ledger and financial records
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial reports such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Ensuring compliance with tax obligations and assisting with filings
  • Working closely with auditors during financial reviews and audits
  • Organising and securing comprehensive financial documentation

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping or a similar accounting role
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and procedures
  • Competency in accounting software such as Xero and Microsoft Excel
  • High attention to detail and precision in work
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
  • Effective communication skills

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

  • Background in accounting, finance, or related fields
  • Relevant certifications, such as Certified Bookkeeper, would be advantageous
  • Additional experience with Excel and sound knowledge of accounting systems

Other Requirements

This is an office-based role, ideally working two days per week, from 09:00 to 17:00 with a one-hour unpaid lunch.
