Chemical Engineer.

West Midlands (M5 / M6 area).

Circa £45,000 + benefits.

As one of the UK’s largest independent manufacturers supplying to the commercial sector my client manufactures fine chemicals and rubber accelerators and has a history spanning over 150 years. With their headquarters in the West Midlands, they are true pioneers within the chemicals industry.

Due to continued, strategic expansion, an opportunity has arisen for a Chemical Engineer to join them. Does this sound like the type of company that can offer you an exciting next step of your career?

Reporting into the Senior Chemical Engineer and working within a team specialising in organo-sulphur synthesis and high-pressure hydrogenation, the key responsibilities for your new role as Chemical Engineer are as follows:

* Initiation, design, implementation and commissioning of plant modification proposals to modify existing plant; including all relevant hazard assessments and HAZOPs.

* Deciding the scope and extent of hazard assessment required to the process, carrying out calculations, advising on testing programmes to obtain further data, initiating and leading HAZOPs as required, revising designs accordingly and maintaining the risk assessment record system.

* Ensuring all chemical engineering work is in compliance with statutory regulations and codes of practice.

* Liaising with the project engineering section to develop the plant design, layout, costing and proposals for authorisation.

* Acting as the Chemical Engineering Expert on process improvement groups and project teams, and advising the research department on practical solutions to develop process routes for new and existing processes.

* Advising other Engineers, Customers, Contractors and Consultants on technical matters covering design, safety and materials of construction and process techniques.

* Acting as Project Leader to specified projects with responsibility for expenditure budget, overall design and completion to agreed targets and operating performance.

* Organisation of design and commissioning work and requests for resources to achieve the required production budget.

My client is keen to hear from people with a degree in Chemical Engineering and a minimum of five years’ relevant industry experience. Experience of COMAH regulations and implementation would certainly be advantageous; although not essential. Regardless of previous expertise, you will be detailed and diligent, by nature, and comfortable working within a fast-moving manufacturing environment.

In return, my client is offering an excellent salary, circa £45,000, dependent on experience. A benefits package is also on offer which includes 25 days holiday, plus Bank holidays, pension, life assurance and paid sick leave. The working hours for the role are Monday-Friday 8am to 4.30pm and opportunities for further progression are readily available for those who want it.
