We’re looking for a tenacious, hands-on leader to own our product and engineering function: someone obsessed with quality, focused on the customer, and ready to work across borders to make things happen.
The Role
This is a pivotal position at the heart of Pure Electric’s mission. As Director of Product & Engineering, you will lead the design, development, testing, and iteration of our global product range. You’ll be responsible for aligning customer insight, business priorities, and engineering excellence to deliver compliant, market-leading electric scooters – fast.
You’ll need to think strategically while getting stuck in, guiding a team of talented engineers, designers, and supply chain partners. The ideal candidate will be comfortable moving between board-level conversations and production-line problem solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the global product and engineering strategy for all PURE scooters.
- Lead the end-to-end development lifecycle: from concept and design through to production, launch, and post-launch improvement.
- Manage and grow a cross-functional team spanning mechanical, electrical, firmware, and industrial design.
- Own product quality, testing protocols, and continuous improvement processes.
- Build a robust component and supplier strategy that combines best-in-class external components with in-house innovation.
- Champion DFM/DFA principles and ensure designs are optimised for cost, quality, and scalability.
- Work directly with global suppliers and manufacturers to resolve challenges and accelerate timelines.
- Collaborate with marketing, commercial, operations, and customer experience teams to ensure alignment and deliver market-ready products.
- Monitor emerging trends and technologies in mobility and incorporate relevant insights into our roadmap.
- Set performance KPIs and report progress to senior leadership.
- Own product compliance and adherence to standards in each market.
What You\’ll Bring
- Proven experience delivering high-quality physical products at scale (e.g. consumer electronics, electric mobility, bicycles, e-mopeds)
- Strong technical background in mechanical engineering (electrical or firmware experience a significant bonus)
- Experience working closely with manufacturing partners, including overseas factories
- Expert understanding of product lifecycle development, DFM/DFA, and industrialisation
- Comfortable managing cross-functional hardware/software teams
- Strong problem-solving ability and comfort operating under pressure
- Meticulous attention to detail, with high personal standards for quality
- Excellent communicator and team leader
- Strong commercial and strategic mindset
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally as needed
Why Join Us?
- Be part of a fast-paced, mission-driven business shaping the future of urban transport
- Work on cutting-edge products with a tangible impact on the environment and society
- Join a high-performing, collaborative team that values autonomy, ownership, and excellence
- Competitive salary, bonus and sharescheme, plus benefits including cycle-to-work scheme, enhanced maternity/paternity leave, and paid volunteer time
