Role Definition
The Data Centre Maintenance Engineer is responsible for operating and maintaining electrical and mechanical equipment and systems to ensure that overall availability and reliability meets or exceeds defined service levels in accordance with Company specified policies, processes and procedures.
Core Responsibilities & Deliverables
- Operate and maintain all electrical, mechanical and HVAC equipment and systems under a rigorous change management system to maintain 100% uptime availability.
- Monitor and troubleshoot all site/plant equipment support systems, including logging and responding to incidents, problems, changes, escalation and resolution.
- Utilise operational systems such as BMS, PMS and CMS to maximum effectiveness.
- Manage subcontractor and contractor resources to deliver safe and quality service.
- Oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) scheduled activity.
- Manage contractors in line with the site Permit to Work (PtW) system.
- Promote a positive Health and Safety (H&S) culture across the site.
- Oversee critical works and act as an Authorised Person for electrical switching activities.
- Operate and maintain power supplies and environmental services to safeguard critical client systems and equipment.
- Perform site walkthroughs to verify efficient operation of equipment and monitoring systems.
- Act as a First Responder to critical incidents or events.
- Complete site documentation before and after work tasks.
- Carry out risk assessments of equipment maintenance and update as required.
- Develop and implement Operational Procedures (OPs) and Work Instructions.
- Create entries on the Service Desk ticketing system and manage alarms.
- Keep all tools and equipment in good condition.
- Maintain a rigorous change‑management culture to prevent downtime.

Qualifications
- Level 3 NVQ in Engineering.
- AP12 or AP Authorised Person Training.
- At least 2 years post‑qualification experience.
- IT literacy – MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- IOSH – Working Safely (preferred).
Experience
- Troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis for complex electrical and mechanical issues.
- Detailed understanding of change‑management processes.
- Proficiency with BMS, PMS, CMS and PPM/CAFM systems.
- Experience managing Permit to Work systems.
- Familiarity with OEM documentation.
- Independent and collaborative working skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication and customer‑facing experience.
- Experience maintaining pumps, HVAC, compressors, boilers, steam systems, chillers, cooling towers, water systems, UPS, generators and related equipment.
