Operations Manager (Leased & Tenanted)
Punch Pubs & Co is a multi‑award winning pub and bar operator, managing circa 1,300 leased and tenanted pubs across the UK. We focus on preserving and enhancing the great British pub, creating vibrant community hubs where everyone is welcome. We offer flexible agreements for publicans, including tenancy and management partnership contracts, ensuring we support every step of the way.
Role Purpose
Our L&T Operations Managers (OM) partner with our Publicans to develop awesome pubs for the community. Operations Managers think big, innovate, and commercially inspire our Publicans to generate sustainable sales and profitability, converting sales to profit through excellent pub controls and disciplines to exceed targets and drive performance. Accountabilities
- Partner effectively to build, develop and maintain a pipeline of candidates for all businesses within the area.
- Recruit high‑calibre individuals who demonstrate relevant and proven skills.
- Attract, engage and build relationships, networking with talented individuals to ensure Punch Pubs is the best pub company to partner with.
- Ensure implementation of Publican development plans supported by a performance‑management culture, setting new Publicans up for success using the Punch Epic framework.
- Devise and maintain a strategic area plan that achieves its substantive targets.
- Proactively utilise centrally available Publican Recruitment tools and talent banks to manage business failures, staying close to the reality of business and reacting quickly with viable solutions.
- Drive an exciting sales‑led culture across all pubs – maximizing all sales opportunities underpinned by a B2B mindset.
- Ensure there are clear 5‑star Publican development plans supported by a positive performance‑management culture.
- Engage with, support delivery and promote centrally facilitated tools that help Publicans maximise the power of social media to interact with their communities, guests and generate sales.
- Maximise the Punch guest segmentation tools and HDI insight data to add value to publican\’s guest‑led decision making (Food, Drink, price, place, promotion).
- Adhere to regulated principles of The Pubs Code.
- Maintain strong publican relationships by adhering to the Punch call cycle.
- Manage drinks range effectively – ensuring pubs adhere to stocking policy and purchase to tied agreements.
- Manage Large Pack Tie compliance, keeping CDI below the targeted average, with a zero tolerance to buying out.
- Work with the central credit team and support tools in preventing and managing debt.
- Lead and develop Publican business and sales growth skills within your region.
- Deliver operational excellence across all pubs, maintaining high standards across operational basics.
- Utilise the premiumisation ranging tool to achieve 100% perfect range that drives great margin and sales.
- Seek commercial sales opportunities for Punch Pubs & Co, including converting Tied Non‑Stockists.
- Develop a clear vision to deliver area plans and aligned budgets focusing on key performance indicators such as organic sales growth, succession planning, improved cost control, operating profit, effective management of budgets, forecasting and overall P&L management.
- Drive the area to achieve long‑term profitability whilst ensuring all targets and KPIs are achieved.
- Deploy capex from the strategic area plan to deliver against ROI.
