About Pulsiv

Pulsiv is disrupting the global power electronics industry. Our patented power conversion technology fundamentally changes how energy is converted—eliminating waste, boosting efficiency, and shrinking system footprints.

We are preparing for a massive phase of growth. With our flagship USB-C fast-charging platform launching in 2027, we will rapidly scale that technology across multiple power levels and variants. From there, we are expanding into high-power, high-growth markets including TVs/displays, LED lighting drivers, industrial power supplies, and hyper-scale data centers, among others. If you want to work on hardware that directly impacts global energy consumption across next-generation tech, this is where it happens.

The Role & Your Future at Pulsiv

We are looking for an ambitious, hands-on Laboratory Technician based in or within easy commuting distance of our engineering hub in Plymouth. This isn’t a passive bench job—you will be right at the heart of our R&D engine, building, tweaking, and stress-testing the prototype hardware that powers our technology roadmaps.

Because we operate as a lean, agile engineering team, this role requires a true “all-hands-on-deck” attitude. You will take full ownership of the laboratory space, handling everything from high-precision electronic assembly down to general lab upkeep, waste management, and day-to-day facilities tasks.

Where can this take you?

Pulsiv is scaling quickly, and we believe in growing our talent from within. As you master our lab systems and gain deep exposure to cutting-edge AC-to-DC conversion, this role offers a clear pathway to transition into Applications Engineering, Test & Validation, or Design Engineering. You won't just keep the lab running; you will build the technical foundation to launch a high-impact career in power electronics.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Build & Modify Next-Gen Hardware: Hands-on prototyping, fine-pitch SMD/TH soldering, complex PCB rework, and custom cable assembly for cutting-edge power electronics modules.
  • Drive Bench Testing & Validation: Set up thermal, efficiency, and environmental stress tests under engineering guidance, logging critical data for upcoming USB-C platforms, display power supplies, lighting drivers, and data center reference designs.
  • Rapid Prototyping & 3D Printing: Own the lab’s 3D printers to fabricate custom test jigs, thermal fixtures, and mechanical prototype enclosures.
  • Lab Ownership & General Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, safe, and professional laboratory environment. This includes routine facility support tasks such as emptying bins, managing recycling/waste clearance, organizing benches, and keeping walkways clear and hazard-free.
  • Stock & Inventory Management: Oversee component stock levels, unpack shipments, track lab consumables, organize hand tools, and coordinate component re-ordering.
  • Support Engineering Sprint Execution: Assist senior engineers with teardowns, equipment calibration tracking, schematics checks, and test automation setup.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Location: Based in or located close to Plymouth, UK (this is a fully on-site laboratory role).
  • Degree Qualified: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Bench & Soldering Craft: Solid hands‑on assembly experience, fine‑pitch SMD rework, wire harness fabrication, and mechanical assembly skills.
  • Test Tool Mastery: Familiarity with standard electronics lab equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, DC electronic loads).
  • Schematic Literacy: Ability to confidently read electronic schematics, assembly diagrams, and technical datasheets.
  • Software Competency: Comfortable using Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Teams) for logging data, tracking stock, and daily collaboration.
  • Attitude: Flexible, proactive, and willing to get stuck into any task—big or small—to keep the engineering environment running smoothly.
  • Experience or familiarity with Altium Designer (schematic capture, PCB layout viewing, component placement).
  • Hands-on exposure to thermal imaging cameras and 3D CAD/slicing software (Cura, PrusaSlicer, SolidWorks).
  • Familiarity with high-voltage laboratory safety practices and ESD control environments.
