A midwife provides care and support to women and their families throughout pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. Some roles and responsibilities you will undertake include:
- Monitor women and their babies during and after pregnancy
- Support women and their families, facilitating classes for pregnancy and parenting
- Manage labour and perform delivery of babies during birth
- Identify and manage risks to mother and baby

A midwife’s salary in the UK starts at £28,407 on band 5. After completing a 12 to 18-month preceptorship, they immediately move to a band 6 salary, starting at £35,392. Courses you could complete include: Any midwifery university course or apprenticeship needs to be approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. - Postgraduate midwifery degree - 1-2 years
- Midwife level 6 degree apprenticeship - 3 years
