Our health and safety advisor, based in Nottingham, will play an essential role in supporting multiple construction projects from their earliest stages through to completion. As part of our capable, growing team, you'll work closely with our health and safety and project management specialists, with guidance and mentoring from our senior leadership team.

During pre-construction, the health and safety advisor will plan, manage and coordinate all health and safety activity – identifying risks and ensuring compliance before work begins on site. As projects progress, you'll provide ongoing guidance on regulatory compliance and best practice, helping teams maintain safe, effective working environments at every stage.

You will be expected to manage your own time effectively, balancing project deliverables against chargeable fees to ensure the quality of service our clients expect. You will also be encouraged to devote time to business development – generating new clients and helping to develop new services for both existing and prospective clients across the construction sector. This role will involve travel to project sites and client locations across the UK. As such, a degree of flexibility and willingness to travel is essential. In return, this offers the opportunity to work across a diverse range of projects and environments, gaining valuable experience within different sectors.

Job responsibilities

  • Delivering CDM Regulations 2015 consultancy work for our varied clients to support them in delivering their duties – this could be as PD (CDM) and/or CDMA or more generalist services.
  • Overseeing construction project / programme H&S – which could, for example, be as site H&S Advisor or setting the project policies and processes.
  • Developing Client H&S continual improvement programmes & overseeing their effective delivery.
  • Representing Pulse Consult in a professional and diligent manner (both personally and technically) including meeting, negotiating and corresponding appropriately with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Establishing positive relations with existing clients to gain their confidence and become the focal point for communication.
  • Undertake duties as required in identifying and delivering new opportunities and business in the region.
  • Maintaining and developing personnel competence to meet the demands of both the business and clients.

About you

Expected experience

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar Principal Design or CDM role.
  • Proven construction site Health and Safety experience.
  • Ability to create bespoke documentation to a high level.
  • Experience in a diverse range of industry sectors (preferred but not required).

Skills & Personal Attributes

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite - ability to generate bespoke reports.
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective communicator able to maintain professional relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Flexible, results driven and able to maintain a diverse workload.
  • A clear-thinking person who demonstrates attention to detail, who is well organised, self-motivated and can operate independently under a broad direction.

Qualifications Required

  • NEBOSH certification, or recognised equivalent.
  • Association for Project Safety (APS) certification: CMaPS professional certification level preferred.
  • AaPS or IMaPS acceptable (with an intention to work towards CMaPS).
  • Institution of Occupational H&S (IOSH) certification: CMIOSH or CertIOSH levels preferred.
  • TechIOSH acceptable.
  • Design qualifications / experience would also be viewed as beneficial.
