An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Learning Disabilities Psychiatry to join a highly regarded NHS team in Reading, Berkshire. This full-time role offers the chance to work within a supportive, multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Main Responsibilities
- Responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and management of adults with learning disabilities who present with mental health conditions, behavioural challenges, or neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Lead on the development of care plans and risk assessments.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior medical staff.
- Involve outpatient clinics, home visits, and close collaboration with community teams, social care, and families.
- Contribute to service development, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician (AC) Status.
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Psychiatry of Learning Disability or within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview.
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion.
- Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team-working skills.
