A well‑established NHS Older Adult Mental Health Service is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide specialist care for patients over 65 years old with mental health disorders such as dementia, late‑onset schizophrenia, depression, and complex psychiatric conditions. The role involves both inpatient and community‑based care, offering the opportunity to work in a collaborative MDT setting alongside geriatricians, psychologists, and social care professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive memory assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Lead medication reviews, risk assessments, and cognitive behavioural management strategies.
- Collaborate closely with primary care teams, neurology departments, and care homes to ensure continuity of care.
- Provide clinical leadership within multidisciplinary meetings and case discussions.
- Offer psychoeducation and support to carers and families.
- Act as a Responsible Clinician (RC) under the Mental Health Act, participating in tribunals and capacity assessments.
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors and specialty trainees.
Requirements
