Pulse have got some really good exciting opportunity, following investment, to grow our General Medicine Department team, to offer enthusiastic, dynamic and friendly colleagues a chance to help develop new models of care and services that support all patients attending the hospital and within the local community in various specialties.

These roles will undertake general outpatient clinics, perform inpatient in-reach and liaison work on the wards, contribute to advice and guidance and triaging of referrals from the primary care sector, as well as supervising the Speciality Registrars and Clinical Nurse Specialists.

We are seeking a Consultant in Elderly Care & General Medicine to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will have comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and be able to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems related to elderly care and general medicine. They will demonstrate the ability to work independently as a senior clinician, while also contributing to the teaching of trainees and multidisciplinary staff. The role requires taking full and independent responsibility for delivering services without direct supervision. Desirable qualities include previous experience as a Consultant Geriatrician, a special interest within Geriatric Medicine, and an interest in managing frailty in acute care, orthogeriatric, or movement disorders.

Essential Criteria:

  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) at the time of interview
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems
  • Experience of working independently as a senior clinician
  • Experience of teaching trainees / multidisciplinary staff
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • Desirable Criteria:

  • MD/PhD or other higher degree
  • Postgraduate diploma
  • ALS
  • Previous experience as a Consultant Geriatrician (locum or substantive)
  • A special interest within Geriatric Medicine complementing those currently in the directorate
  • An interest in managing frailty in acute care, orthogeriatric, or movement disorders would be particularly welcome
