Location: Queen's Hospital & King George Hospital (Cross-site Role)

Contract Type: Locum Consultant

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday

Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (typically)

Pay Rate: Up to £120 per hour (maximum)

Start Date: ASAP (subject to compliance)

Requirement: Must hold a current GMC licence to practise and be on the Specialist Register (or equivalent eligibility). Candidates must be DE.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Consultant Vascular Surgeon, or a Consultant General Surgeon with a strong vascular interest and relevant experience, to join the surgical team across Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital. This is a full-time weekday locum opportunity, providing comprehensive vascular surgical services across both hospital sites. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care while working within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Outpatient vascular clinics.
  • Elective and emergency vascular theatre sessions.
  • Daily ward rounds for vascular inpatients.
  • Post-take ward rounds and review of acute admissions.
  • Assessment and management of emergency vascular referrals.
  • Participation in consultant on-call duties as required.
  • Collaborative working with multidisciplinary teams, including radiology, anaesthetics, emergency medicine, intensive care, and specialist nursing teams.
  • Providing senior clinical decision-making and supervision where appropriate.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and ensuring high standards of patient safety and care.

Working Pattern

Monday to Friday. Typically 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Cross-site working between Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital. Duties include clinics, theatre lists, ward rounds, post-take responsibilities, and on-call commitments where scheduled.

Essential Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Vascular Surgery, or be a General Surgeon with significant vascular experience and specialist interest.
  • Extensive NHS consultant-level experience in vascular surgery.
  • Ability to independently manage both elective and emergency vascular cases.
  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary team working skills.
  • Up-to-date mandatory training and appraisal.
  • Current DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • DE status as required for this position.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience working across multiple hospital sites.
  • Experience within a busy acute NHS vascular service.
  • Familiarity with NHS electronic patient record systems.

Rate

Up to £120 per hour (maximum rate), subject to experience and client approval.
